First Edit

This is my first edit, I need to think of an idea of how to make my introduction more interesting, whether I need to add some atmospheric or not.

Pasting Attributes

Pasting attributes means that if you like an edit that you've done on one piece of footage, you can copy and past them onto a different piece of footage so you get the exact same effects. For example , if you change the colour of one piece of footage and want all you footage to be that same colouring, then you can copy and paste its attributes to another piece of footage.
You need the pieces of footage on your timeline.
Right click on the edited piece of footage on your timeline, this menu will come up.
Select 'Copy' and this will copy the effects from this clip (in this example its the colouring).
Then click on your other piece of footage, of which you want the effects, and select 'Paste Attributes' and the effects will paste onto the other clip, as seen below.

Changing The Colouring Of Your Footage

Using the three way colour correcter you can change what colouring you footage is to suite the mood, time or to change the atmospheric feel of your video.
Firstly, drag a piece of footage onto your timeline that you would like to use and edit.
Then, on the right hand side, above the box, click the title 'Effects'.
And then select the heading 'Video Effects' and a list of various video effects will appear.
From that list, select the heading 'Colour Correction' and another list of different colour collection effects will appear.
Scroll down to where you see 'Three-Way Colour Correcter' and select it.
You then need to go up to the top of the screen and select the heading 'Effect Controls' and this screen should come up. (you need to make sure you've got the piece of footage that you want to edit selected).
You can then drag the small, white circles, in the middle of the colour circles, and change the colouring of footage as you can see above and below.

Using A Transition

This shows you how to using a transition from one piece of footage to another.

Firstly, you need to have one piece of selected footage already in place on your right hand side of the screen, you then need to choose what piece of film you would like the already chosen piece of film to transition to.
When you've chosen the piece of footage, select it and drag it over the right hand side, next to the originally chosen piece of footage.
On the left hand side of the screen, on top of the project box, there are different headings you can choose, click on 'Effects'. This box will then show different choices of effects instead of your filming.
You then need to choose the title 'video transitions' (click on the triangle next to the heading).
Then choose whatever sort of transition you would like to use. For this example I have chosen 'dissolve'. So you would then click on the triangle next to the heading dissolve so that you then open a list of different dissolve transitions.
You can then choose which sort of dissolve transition you would like to use. For this example I'm using film dissolve.
Click on the film dissolve and then drag it over to the other side, in between the two pieces of footage.
You can then play the footage and decide if you like the transition.

Selecting A Certain Bit Of Footage

How to select a certain part of footage from a bit of filming to use in your   music video.

Firstly you choose which bit of footage you want to edit from the project box.
You then play the piece of footage up and find where you want the edited bit of footage to start, you then pause it on the starting point and select the button ' { '.
Then play the clip again up until you want the edited clip to end, you then pause the clip and then select the ' } ' button.
You should then have the selected piece of footage that you would to use in your video. You can play the selected piece of footage to check that it's correct.
After that, all you need to do is place your cursor over the left hand side, on the piece of film you'd like to use, and then just drag the piece of footage over onto the right hand side and place where needed.

Trying Out New Skills (Time Lapse)

My Cast

Trying Make Up Ideas Out

In this photo you can see the make up is quite weird, I did this because I'm creating an indie music video and so I thought I'd try to create a different, indie style 60's look with exaggerated long bottom eyelashes.

This is just a rough go at trying a 60's look makeup without any tutorials or anything. From looking at pictures, I saw that the focus was definitely on the eyes and so they would use dark eye shadows to make outlines and high lights and the light colours and white eyeliner to make the eyes look bigger, unfortunately I didn't have any white eyeliner then but I do now. We also saw that they would usually have quite pale lips and so we used foundation to cover them and make them look pale but what I will probably do is use a very pale, matte pink lipstick as they didn't use shiny or sparkly lip then from what I have seen.

Looking at Make Up Styles For My Actress

Make Up
In the parts of the music video where Kayleigh (my performer) is being filmed, because she will be set in the 60's I'll need her make up to resemble this and so I will need to find idea's of how I'm going to do this.

Pre- Production Test Shoot 50% Audio

In this video, we experiment with  200%  speeds against the 50% audio (when recording). We had James miming at the 50% speed whilst we were dancing to the proper speed and so when we sped up the video footage so that James was miming to the proper speed, it made us go at double speed (200%).

Audience Profile

Audience Profile

Rosie is 19 years old. She loves listening to music and it's big part of her life; she loves listening to music from Paloma Faith as she likes her style and inspiration of music. She likes  the indie and vintage style music, clothes and self style. Her fashion choice stands out as its different and has a really vintage style. Her style is inspired by the past and and she loves the look how the woman and men used to dress back in the sixties; she loves bright lipstick and nails, dark eye liner and big hair, she likes to follow fashion and bring her own element into ever outfit as fashion is really important to her and expressing herself ans style is a big part of it. Because of her interest in vintage fashion and style, that's why Rosie really enjoys watching Paloma Faith's music video's and therefore has become interested in her music that she creates too. Rosie enjoys indie music as she enjoys to be different and that's why Lana Del Rey is a favourite of hers because she loves her vintage inspired, indie style music videos and her indie style of music; there's not really any artists like her. She loves to attend concerts and festivals, as she loves to be in an atmospheric environment and listening to the music she's interested. But lastly, Rosie is a very romantic person, she loves the idea of love, always following her heart but has had it broken many times.

Music Video Analysis (2) Lana Del Rey- Summertime Sadness

Music Video Analysis: Lana Del Rey- Summertime Sadness

The video is about two women in love who's loved drifted at the end of summer. This sadly was too much for one of them and so committed suicide. At the news of this caused her ex lover to do the same this as they couldn't live without each other.
This video is very indie and the style of it is very vintage which is why I have chosen to analyse it. The image style is very old fashioned, like you're watching a really old film, with all the 'crackles' on the screen. I would describe the video as quite disorienting, hows its edited with cuts to different things quite quickly and some purposely blurred footage.

At the start of the music video, there is footage of the sky which has been taken over time, the sun is setting, this could represent their love. We then hear a phone call from a woman telling Lana; "remember, I'll always love you, bye". We can't see who's saying it which leaves a sense of mystery. There's then a close up of Lana and she looks sad and lost, this is representing what she's feeling like without her love. It then blanks her out with a white flash, you can still see the silhouette of her though slightly, this could show what she feels is left of her, just her shell, her body, because her soul belongs with someone else.
There's an establishing shot shown, showing cliffs and a waterfall. We then see a long shot of her standing at the top of the cliffs and it cuts to close up of her face and she sings the opening lyrics with a pain on her face. This continuity editing lets us put together what is happening and what might  happen, although it's very jumping, it shows continuity editing has been used at the start. There's then a long shot of the back of Lana, we can see the horizon and where the land ends, we see the tree's so aligned and symmetrical but theres a gap where she stands, almost showing that this is what is meant to happen there's a gap there for you to stand in because this is what you have to do, because you can't be happy anymore. The lighting is dull, like it's sun set, again this shows, this lighting has been used to show the end. Her arms then spread apart and we watch her calmly fall off the edge of the cliff and then we see a black screen to show the end.
We then begin to see flash backs of her life and then life together in parts of the music video. It's quite hard to figure what is a flash back and what is not at times. The transactions between different shots are covered by a cloud of smoke covering the screen which is clever, this gives quite an angelic feel as they almost look like clouds; representing heaven.
We see a woman in a red dress, driving fast in a car looking very upset. The over the shoulder shot from the car shows what she's doing and it shows a close up shot of her very disturbed face.
As Lana sings certain lyrics there are lyrical matches in the song; when she is singing about 'telephone wires' there's a shadow of telephone wires going over her and when she sings the word fire, theres a bright orange flame covering the screen.
There are then lots of flashbacks all edited together very fast and then they stop as we see an over the shoulder shot of the ghost of Lana in the car staring at her ex lover as she drives very distressed showing that she's always with her.
We can then see Lana's ex lover, climb over onto the bridge. In between the shots of her on the bridge there are many cuts to short footage of them two together and this could represent what's running through her mind at the moment. There shows a pull focus from establishing the bridge to the emotions on her face as she's standing there and through the flash backs it cuts to an extreme close up of her crying face and then we see her fall from the bridge to show the pain that she's feeling.
We see a statue of Jesus pinned on the cross and it zooms in closer to him and then very are shown various different shots of Lana lifting up her arms just like Jesus before she then jumps of the cliff. This shows that like Jesus, Lana didn't want to die because he wanted to but because he had to, there was no other way, and that represents how Lana felt, like this was the only way out, heartbreak murdered her.
We then see Various shots of Lana and her ex falling to their deaths, slowly and floaty, and theres smoke, it almost looks like they're diving into a calm pool of smoke. Again this could be the representation of heaven and them meeting again in heaven. We obviously don't see them hit the flood but what we do see a red piece of glass hit the floor and smash representing the ex in her red dressing crashing to her death.
There's then more flash back of them both but they're broken up by shots of the two lover consumed in smoke, we see eye line matches of them looking at each other showing they are together again perhaps as the smoke could be heaven.
The video finished with a long shot of the road that some of their memory footage together was taken on, and then we see the spooky spirt of Lana walking down it, showing that road and memories mean something to her as her spirit wanted to visit it.

Music Video Production Treatment

Music Video Proposal

Idea for my Music Video

What I would like my music video to have an old fashioned feel to it, like the music videos of Lana Del Rey and Paloma Faith. So I'd like to to be quite indie.
In the video, It's going to be about an middle ages woman who finds something that reminds her of a young love she once had who screwed her over and she reminisces the old times when they were together. We go back in time to see her when she was with the boy and we see her performing the song using lots of emotion.
My mum will be playing the part of the middle aged woman reminiscing, My friend, Kayleigh, will be playing the part of the younger version of my mum, so we will see her performing the song and there will be footage of her and her young love together.  I haven't yet found a suitable boy yet but I'm looking.

Back Up Choice Song For Music Video

My back up choice of song to have on my music video would be Marilyn Monroe's 'Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend'. I like this song because it really is vintage and and a real classic, it also would have a nice performance video but the quality of sound just isn't good enough and this is why I don't want to use it as I need a good quality soundtrack to my music video.

Chosen Song For My Music Video

I have chosen to do a song that is over fifty years old and therefor doesn't have copyright laws that will stop me using it. I have chosen the song 'Crazy' by Patsy Cline. The main reason I have chosen this song is because I have decided that I would like to create a vintage style music video and this song is great for that. You can hear the style of music is old and it fits what I want exactly. Also another reason i have chosen this song is that it is a lovely song, an easy listening song and so will be a good song for all ages to listen to and enjoy. My last reason for choosing this song is that I wanted a female singer as I only have a couple of friends who I believe are reliable and say they will partake in my music video, and they're girls so I needed a song sang by a female.

More Music Video Director Research

The more research I do into Christopher Sweeneys work, the more I like the idea of doing a vintage music video like the music videos he directs for Lana Del Rey. I love the look and the vintage feel for them. I have looked at other vintage style music videos such as 'Not F'air' by Lily Allen and directed by Melina Matsoukas.
I have really been influenced to create a vintage style music video from doing further research and I think the best way to do this is to use an old song. As copy right laws run out after 50 years I think it'll be a really good idea to use an old song and do a vintage style video but with a modern twist.
